Essure® : For when your family is complete.
Women who are sure their family is just the right size often turn to permanent methods of birth control, such as tubal ligation, to avoid an unplanned pregnancy. At Cheyenne Women's Clinic, we offer a better alternative for many women in the form of Essure®.
The Essure procedure:
- Can be performed in our office in an appointment that will take about 45 minutes
- Requires no hormones, surgery, anesthesia, or days of recovery
- Is covered by most insurance
- Is 99.8% effective, making it the most effective form of permanent birth control (a confirmation test can ensure it's working)
How does Essure work?
- Your doctor places tiny, soft, flexible inserts into the fallopian tubes by way of the vagina and cervix. No incision is needed.
- The tip of the insert is visible outside the fallopian tube, giving your doctor visual confirmation that the insert is in place.
- Over the next three months, your body creates a natural barrier around the inserts, blocking sperm from reaching your eggs.
- After three months, an Essure Confirmation Test that uses dye and a special type of x-ray confirms the inserts are still in place and the fallopian tubes are completely blocked.
